My name is Ben Cuevas-Rengstorf and I teach Level 1 and 2 Culinary Arts, as well as a dual immersion Spanish language culinary arts class.
I received a degree in education from the University of Minnesota (Spanish and ELL) in 2006, and have been a classroom teacher ever since. In 2017, I finished a degree in Culinary Arts from Saint Paul College, at which point I founded the culinary arts program at Roosevelt High School. I’m passionate about education as well as food – so it is an honor and joy to bring them together in this program!
When I’m not in the school kitchen, I can often be found in my home kitchen cooking with friends and family. I also love to garden, explore the outdoors, listen to and play music, and generally staying active in the community.
My name is Carlyn Shanley and I teach Level 1, 2, and Level 3 Culinary Arts!
I studied English Literature at the University of Minnesota and earned my Bachelor of Arts 2013. I taught English Language Arts in Minneapolis Public Schools for six years before joining the Roosevelt Culinary Program. My first job was at a family-owned German restaurant that was opened over 100 years ago and I've worked in restaurants ever since! I have been a prep cook, server, barista, line cook, and caterer. I am excited to share my love of food and hospitality with our students and help them learn new skills to nourish themselves and their communities.
Outside of school you can find me at the Farmers Market, cooking even more in my own kitchen, or biking along the river!
